Supper at the bridge club

At the bridge supper, Tuesday, we shared a four person table with, oh no, not those two.  Sue and I have sat East West opposing Sarah and Debbie several times in the past.  Clearly neither of those two women ever did indicate any emotion other than “I couldn’t care less about you”.  Each time we moved to their bridge table I would utter a greeting and would receive no response - none.  Then, this past Tuesday the only unoccupied seats were at the Sarah/Debbie table, and the task at hand was supper, not bridge.  Yikes.  Again, I greeted both women, but this time each smiled and sort of acknowledged my presence.  Sue and I pressed them for conversation and Sue found the magic trigger.  Debbie began chatting following Sue’s “what did you do for Thanksgiving” question.  For the next 45 minutes Debbie’s mouth issued forth non-stop information regarding her ultra-wealthy lawyer daughter and her poor deceased husband.  Sarah continued with only partially interrupted silence.  Debbie kept talking.  After that supper experience Sue and I are Debbie’s and Sarah’s new BFF.  Of course neither of those two know anything about us.
