It was bound to happen. The cloche cover removal step went awry after my initial bake period yesterday. At 490 degrees Fahrenheit that ceramic dome required instant action when my butter-fingers lost grip on its handle. The crashing and shattering was largely confined to the oven interior except for the largest earthenware chunk. That piece cascaded across the floor. Quick mittened grabs enabled retrieval before heat damage scarred the floor. Alas, King Arthur Company assures me that the replacement cloche will arrive no later than Wednesday November 3rd. Therefore, no sourdough bread until Thursday.
